Russ Garcia was a leading arranger of the West Coast Cool school during the 1950s and 1960s. He collaborated with everyone from Stan Getz to Anita O'Day and did the charts for the best Porgy and Bess ever recorded -- with Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong. When jazz gigs dried up he scored such films as The Time Machine.
