Perhaps the only jazz musician commonly referred to as an acronym, NHOP is one of the most widely recorded bassists in the music, namely because just about everyone who's ever passed through Denmark has made an album with him. His popularity with musicians (geography aside) is easy to understand: he's a virtuoso with a big, supportive tone, and he swings like he means it. He's made plenty recordings of his own -- mostly Bop combos, but with duet albums sprinkled in. While none are earth-shattering in terms of originality, they're as consistently solid and tasteful as his playing.
