Shortly after Jon Langford's band the Mekons started to flirt with the down-home tones of Roots Rock and vocal soul of Cosmic American Music, the Waco Brothers were born. They're especially good at blending Honky-Tonk stylings with subtle Rockabilly bounce-beats and even political Folk Rock. With these stylistic hybrids and their frontman's soothing singing, the Waco Brothers have stamped a sound of their own within their dynamic songwriting range. The band's uptempo, Americana version of Jimmy Cliff's "The Harder They Come" has become a favorite 7" B-side among fans of the Waco Brothers. With ribbons of vocal texture and country sweetness, Langford's voice almost coos and woos like Joe Pernice or Colin Blunstone of the Zombies.
