Singer-Songwriter Mark Lanegan rose to fame as the singer of Seattle's Screaming Trees. While that band trucked primarily in psychedelic guitar attacks couched in Grunge's sonic excess, Lanegan's solo work is an entirely different animal. Dark lyrical themes about dependence, loneliness, and death coupled with Lanegan's sleepy sounding baritone. The acoustic instrumentation gives the music an overwhelming sense of foreboding. On these subtly produced songs, Lanegan seems so at ease with this style that it is hard to believe he ever did anything else.
