Soprano saxophonist David Liebman has released nearly fifty albums since the early 1970s, quietly establishing himself as one of the instrument's more important stylists in the process. His sideman duties include a brief period with Miles Davis in the early '70s and several recordings with ex-John Coltrane drummer Elvin Jones. He also led an Indian-influenced Fusion group called Lookout Farm during the mid-1970s. Since then he's done a little of everything: standards, Jazz-Funk, original Post Bop, and a couple of Coltrane tributes, including a 1998 reworking of Meditations on which he lets loose with some scalding tenor saxophone. Though never a highly fashionable name, Liebman has produced a diverse and consistently solid body of work.
