Revered by the Indie conglomerate as the new messiah, mainstay Doug Martsch and his revolving lineup manage to consistently deliver skewered pop with tweaked choppy guitars. On a good day, Martsch's fractured voice can break your heart in seven places. Live, guys in horn-rimmed glasses are prone to shouting "Prog!" due to the constant shifting and layering within songs, especially those found on Perfect From Now On (1995). Keep It Like a Secret (1999) marked a return to more focused pop while still retaining BTS's amazing trademark melodic guitar dissonance.
