Billy Joe Royal may play lite Country Pop such as "Down in the Boondocks," but he also recorded probably the best version of Joe South's "Hush" -- it's obviously better than Kula Shaker and even more soulful than Deep Purple. Royal's soulful singing and horn arrangements helped create a rich Country Soul atmosphere.
