YaYa teaches African-American history through song. Released in 1997, the approach is not unlike Schoolhouse Rock and it bypasses hip-hop for '70s Soul and Afrocentric drums. One ultracatchy chorus, "George Washington Carver...he is the peanut man," should appeal to all the white kids who are just discovering Shaft, Stevie Wonder, and Pam Grier.
