A conceptual crew masterminded by hip-hop enigma Mike Ladd, theMajesticons embody all things "commercial rap." They are aCrystal-popping, party-jam-rocking, cash-flashing strike force doingbattle against the Infesticons, another concept crew/rival posse that'sall about difficult-to-digest, "abstract" production andpseudo-sophisticated lyricism. In this war of the worlds, the victor winstotal control of hip-hop's future. The Star Wars-like saga began in1999 with the release of the Infesticons' Gun Hill Road, andcontinued in 2003 with the Majesticons' Beauty Party. While bothalbums' biting satire and subterranean status will likely keep them fromthe ears of the people they're actually addressing, many indie-rap heads(especially those who dug Def Jux's S.A. Smash project) will find themhilarious and entirely on point. A third and final chapter of this epicstruggle is said to be in the works.
