Every now and then a David Ball sneaks onto the radio, and for about a second people who care are duped into thinking that Country radio might be changing for the better. Ball has an impeccable pedigree starting with his teenage years on the coffee house folk circuit in Texas in the '60s, to his tenure as bassist in the beloved Austin Folk trio Uncle Walt's Band, which was fronted by the late Walter Hyatt ( killed in the Valu Jet crash in the Florida Everglades). Ball tried his luck in Nashville in the late '80s, but it wasn't until 1994 that he took the hard Honky Tonk number " Thinking Problem" straight to #2 in the Country charts. Ball has never reached that kind of chart height again, but he has just as significantly, not changed his pure Honky Tonk sound one iota.
