This Hotlanta trio garners a lot of comparisons to the Dixie Chicks even though one of them is a man and they don't play any bluegrass. Sugarland are definitely their own thing and this is obvious when you listen to their music. Yeah, you may hear traces of Terri Clark's gruffness in Jennifer Nettles' sultry voice, but she also exudes some heavy soul leftover from her days as the front woman for the gospel band Soul Miner's Daughter. She met up with Kristian Bush and Andrew Hyra (of Billy Pilgrim) in 2002; two years later, they had released their debut album on Mercury Records.
