This versatile trumpeter has allegiances to Swing and Trad Jazz, but does not confine himself. He has ably taken on pieces by Mingus, Monk, and even classical composer Charles Ives in addition to working with several relative modernists including saxist Chris Potter and trombonist Ray Anderson. Frequently creative arrangements and a willingness to explore obscure tunes are additional assets to this underrated performer's music.
