Also known as Luther Campbell, this porn-rap pioneer is arguably the most famous figure in the Miami Booty Bass scene. Luke started 2 Live Crew in the mid-1980's, crafting X-rated party jams by fusing booming bass bumps, speedy 808 beats, call-and-response chanted choruses, and humorously lewd lyrics. In 1989 the group found themselves under fire by watchdog groups, record stores, and the supreme court, after being accused of distributing obscene material, i.e. their album As Nasty As They Wanna Be. The Crew eventually prevailed, and continued dropping albums throughout the nineties. Luke has also released many solo albums, runs his own label, produces erotic pay-per-view, and promotes new artists.
