A Manhattan transplant, Claudia Acuna is an excellent young South American jazz singer who excels at forward-thinking Spanish language Latin Jazz and adventurous Post Bop. She's been a major force in Chile for a few years now but her American debut Wind From the South on the Verve label (2000) should find a global audience. Acuna's salsa numbers sizzle like those of Elis Regina but her vocal style is closer to Cassandra Wilson.
