PICTURE SLEEVE Grading Sleeves are graded first, THEN Inserts, THEN the Record For example a grade of VG/M/NM would mean >> The Sleeve is in VERY GOOD condition - Any insert would be in MINT condition - The Record is in NEAR MINT condition. * * U.K SLEEVES All U.K. pressed singles would come in a "Company Sleeve" (but not Jukekbox Issues)so if it is not supplied with the correct sleeve then A message will be attached with an explanation. For instance "In Plain Sleeve" * * All USA pressed singles (even Re-Issues) might be in a company sleeve but many were supplied in just Plain-Sleeves as standard. Contact us if you would like to know what sleeve it has or you have a preferences. * * NEW = Records bought brand new and never played. M or MINT = Records and items which are flawless. NM or NEAR MINT = As above but might have a very minor mark. EX or EXELLENT = Record has been played and might have some light audible surface noise or the sleeve might be worn. VG or VERY GOOD = Record is marked with some light clicks but still plays fine or the sleeve is very worn VG- or VERY GOOD MINUS = This is a low grade where the Record has many marks and audible crackles but still plays well and is not cracked and does not jump (Ideal for Jukeboxes) * * WHAT IS A JUKEBOX ISSUE? JUKEBOX ISSUES are pressed especially for Jukeboxes as they will be manufactured with a large type centre as standard and will mention on the label "Jukebox" OR "JB" (This is not a NOC see below). * * UK Singles Have a small centre hole as standard (unless Jukebox Issue) these can be cut out to make a large centre hole by "Dinking". * * USA Singles Have a large centre hole as standard (although some very old Jukebox Issues have a small centre hole) If you want to play them on a standard UK turntable then I can supply you with a Plastic "spider" clip. * * NOC = Not Original Centre (The centre has been cut out (Dinked) so it can be played on a Jukebox) P/S = Picture Sleeve P/D = Picture Disc SOS = Sticker On Sleeve SOL = Sticker On Label S/S = Still Sealed TOS = Tear On Sleeve TOL = Tear On Label WOS = Writing On Sleeve WOL = Writing On Label
Record Collector's Grading System
MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
------------------------------------------------------------ EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
------------------------------------------------------------ VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
------------------------------------------------------------ GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.
------------------------------------------------------------ FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.
------------------------------------------------------------ POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
------------------------------------------------------------ BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
------------------------------------------------------------ CDs & CASSETTES: As a general rule, CDs and cassettes either play perfectly - in which case they are in Mint condition - or they don't, in which case their value is minimal. Cassette tape is liable to deteriorate with age, even if it remains unplayed, so care should be taken when buying old tapes. CDs are difficult to grade visually: they can look perfect but actually be faulty, while in other cases they may appear damaged but still play perfectly. Cassette and
CD inlays and booklets should be graded in the same way as record covers and sleeves. In general, the plastic containers for cassettes and CDs can easily be replaced if they are broken or scratched, but card covers and digipaks are subject to the same wear as record sleeves
